Kirk Upton

Biography:

Kirk Upton is a registered psychologist based in Australia, working within general health settings for a number of years within private practice to support individuals and couples across a broad range of mental health concerns and chronic conditions. He integrates evidence-based approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs.

Kirk has particular experience in:

  • panic disorder
  • autism spectrum related issues,
  • somatic concerns
  • anxiety
  • relationship dynamics
  • identity-related concerns,

Combining clinical precision with a warm, collaborative style. His work emphasises building insight, self compassion, and sustainable change, while creating a therapeutic space that is respectful, understanding, and focused on meaning.

Working within the LGBTIQA+ community for many years, extensive work has been on providing support for individuals coming out, south asian communities, ATSI & CALD communities and further interest in new adult diagnosis with ASD and sensory needs.

Outside of his clinical work, Kirk enjoys a focus of creative but also active pursuits. He has a strong interest in art and visual expression, often exploring different styles and concepts as a way to unwind and engage creatively. Foraging and native plant identification is a niche interest. Kirk enjoys maintaining his own wellbeing to support others, and certainly enjoys time with his golden retriever Sunny.
