Dr Isaac Sabel

Biography:

Isaac is warm and gentle clinical psychologist. He values making clients feel safe and cared for as they seek to overcome self-defeating life patterns and live a fulfilling and meaningful life. He is skilled in providing treatment to adults presenting with a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction, trauma, and relational challenges.

In addition to his work at Kaleido, Isaac works at a specialist outpatient anxiety disorders clinic, where he sees patients with complex anxiety (for example, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias) and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (for example, OCD, hoarding disorder, trichotillomania). He also works at a multidisciplinary HIV sexual health service, where he provides care to people living with HIV presenting with a range of difficulties, including alcohol and other drug use, attachment problems, and trauma related to minority stress. Isaac is passionate about providing safe, non-judgemental and affirming care to LGBTQ+ and other minority communities; recognising the impact that marginalisation can have on mental health outcomes.

Isaac’s main therapeutic modalities are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), including exposure and response prevention, and schema therapy, but he also draws from other evidenced-based interventions as needed including eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. He has a particular interest in how early life experiences can shape latter patterns of coping and functioning.

Isaac holds a Bachelor of Psychology degree with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney, and completed his master’s and PhD in clinical psychology at UNSW. He has published widely in scientific journals and has presented at various domestic and international conferences. He also holds a conjoint associate lecturer appointment at UNSW, and is registered to provide psychological services through both Medicare and Workcover.
